hard drive by clicking on the directory and dragging it to the hard drive
or into a directory on the hard drive.

Using the Program

1) To start Sugar & Snails, double click the SUGAR.EXE file inside the
Sugar directory.

2) Watch the intro, then click on any of the images on the screen. For
example, if you click on the dog, the dog will bark (presumably at the
cat!). Click on the door and it will open, then you will see a counter
and shelves inside the store. The store counter and shelves are the
equivalent of a main menu for the program.

3) The store counter presents a number of images for you to click on.
The canister set leads to a Match Game, where students match look alike
items. The race cars lead to a Mismatch Game, where students try to pick
the odd item from a group of similar items. The window on the left leads
to Wendy's Picnic. Wendy's Picnic is an exercise in turning objects into
words. The window to the right leads to the AlphaZoo. AlphaZoo is an
exercise in turning letters into objects. If you click on the book of
riddles, you will enter the Riddle Game.

4) You may quit the program in either of two ways. First, click on the
Exit sign, or second, press the Control and Q keys from anywhere in the
program.

5) Both the Match and Mismatch parts of the program are made up of four
levels. The first level uses shapes, the second uses Capital (upper case)
letters, the third uses lower case letters, and the fourth introduces two,
three and four letter words.

6) To enter any of the levels in Match or Mismatch, simply click on the
canister or race car with the appropriate icon.

7) To exit from any of the levels in Match or Mismatch, click on the
canister set or the race cars in the upper right corner of the screen.
This will return you to a screen where you can choose a different level.
To return to the main screen with the store shelves and windows, click on
the picture of the store in the upper left corner of the screen.

8) In Picnic, click on any of the objects to see (and hear) what they are.
To see a new set of objects, click on the arrow in the upper right hand
corner of the screen. To exit the Picnic, click on the picture of the
store in the upper left corner of the screen.

9) In AlphaZoo, click on any of the letters to see an animal which begins
with that letter. To see a new set of letters, click on the arrow in the
upper right hand corner of the screen. To exit the AlphaZoo, click on the
picture of the store in the upper left corner of the screen.

10) The Riddles Game challenges students to solve word riddles based on
the vocabulary they have been exposed to in the other modules. Click on
the megaphone icon to hear the riddle spoken, or click on the correct answer.

11) Moving from one part of the program to another part is simple. Click on
the store front icon any time you want to return to the store counter and
shelves. If you are in Match or Mismatch, you can click on the shelf to
return to the screen which allows you to choose a level, or click on the
store front icon to return to the store counter.
